Sacramento is celebrating Halloween family-style with some amazingly fun events sure to please the entire family. Dust off your spookiest, sparkliest, and splashiest costumes and get ready to have a ghoulishly good time at these family-friendly events this Halloween season.

Fairytale Town: 34th Annual Safe & Super Halloween

Saturdays and Sundays: Oct. 16, 17, 23 and 24

The 34th annual Fairytale Town Safe & Super Halloween event returns for 2021! This year's theme is Ghostbusters, and there will be something strange in the neighborhood. So put on your proton packs (or princess dress, superhero cape, or spookiest costume) for an evening of safe family fun.

The Safe & Super Halloween event features "trick or treat" stations, family photo-ops, a nightly costume parade, live entertainment, games, arts and crafts, and plenty of surprises!

Tickets are limited. Buy tickets online and save before Oct. 15th. Ticket prices go up on Oct. 16th. All adults must be accompanied by a child and every child must be accompanied by an adult.

Old Sacramento Waterfront: Movies Under the Stars

Thursdays: Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28

It's the spookiest time of the year and you can celebrate with a hauntingly good family-friendly movie every Thursday night in October! Movies under the Stars presented by Xfinity takes place at Old Sacramento State Historic Park.

The spooktacular October schedule includes:

  • Oct. 7: Original Ghostbusters (sold out)
  • Oct. 14: Clue
  • Oct. 21: Hocus Pocus (sold out)
  • Oct. 28: The Haunted Mansion

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and take advantage of takeout from one of the nearby Old Sacramento restaurants!

This is a ticketed event and shows are already selling out, so get your tickets before they're gone, boys and ghouls! Tickets must be purchased in advance. Purchase 4 tickets and receive a free complimentary picnic blanket.

Railroad Museum: “Spookomotive” Train Rides

Saturdays and Sundays: Oct. 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31

Celebrate the season with a delightful (not frightful) train ride presented by the Sacramento Railroad Museum. The Spookomotive diesel-powered train is decorated for the season with cornstalks, scarecrows, skeletons, bats, and spiders. Take in the action as villains and superheroes fight over the control of the train and enjoy tasty Halloween treats!

Each weekend has a different theme, including:

  • Superheroes & Villains: Oct. 9 & 10
  • Pirates & Princesses: Oct. 16 & 17
  • Wizards & Witches: Oct. 23 & 24
  • Superheroes & Villains: Oct. 30 & 31

Upgrade to a First-Class ticket and enjoy the themed entertainment along with the excitement of a Magical Mad Scientist and his crew of minions in a zany laboratory with tricks, illusions, and special treats.

This is a ticketed event. General Coach and General First-Class tickets are available. Children under age 2 do not need a ticket and must be seated on an adult's lap during the train ride.

Masks are required for all participants aged 2 and over. Costume masks do not count as masks.

Crocker Art Museum: Monster Mash

Saturday, Oct. 30

Come do the Monster Mash at the Crocker Art Museum on Saturday, Oct. 30. (It's a graveyard smash!) Costumed kiddos and their grown-ups are invited to kick off the Halloween weekend with a Monster Mash bash featuring a participatory performance followed by a Halloween-inspired scavenger hunt, festive family portraits, and magical surprises. Attendees will receive a non-edible treat and interactive gift bag.

This is a ticketed event with discounted rates for museum members. Children aged 2 and under are free.

Aerospace Museum: Pumpkins & Planes

Saturday, Oct. 30

Soar on over to the Aerospace Museum for the Pumpkins and Planes event from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturday, Oct. 30 in the huge outdoor Air Park. Meet Amelia Bearheart and her friends! Fly on over on your favorite broom and bring your littles for trick or treating, music, games, and Halloween-themed activities for the whole family!

This is a ticketed event with free admission for children ages 3 and under.
